Overview
A late 17th-century house with fine Georgian interiors, Croft Castle has been home to the Croft family for nearly 1,000 years. The castle is surrounded 1,500 acres of woods, farm and parkland, within which visitors can find an Iron Age hill fort at Croft Ambrey. The interior features a number of 'atmosphere rooms', including the 18th-century Saloon.
Art Funded works
In 2002 Joan Hurst gifted objects to 19 museums, including a tapestry cushion by an unknown artist to Croft Castle. The cushion's design is composed of greens and blues, and is ornamented with fringes and tassels. It depicts an exterior scene with a castle in the background and two figures, perhaps a Lord and Lady, meeting in the foreground.
Visitor information
The castle's tea-room has a range of menu options for you to make the most of your day. Visitors can enjoy several waymarked walks across the estate, and dogs are welcome in the parkland as long as their owners keep them on leads. For families, the castle provides a family room, events, activities and a play area inspired by the castle.
