The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden offers an absorbing insight into the work of one of Britain's most important 20th-century artists. The museum inhabits Trewyn studios in St Ives where Barbara Hepworth lived and worked from 1949 until her death in 1975, when the house and garden were given to the nation. Displays include sculptures in bronze, stone and wood, along with paintings, drawings and archive material.

During the 1950s Hepworth increasingly crafted her sculptures in bronze, leading her to create works on an impressive scale. The Sculpture Garden provides an ideal environment to view many of her most magnificent bronzes in the context for which they were created.

Permanent collections

Highlights on display in the museum include a series of works on paper from Projects for Waterloo Bridge and a fascinating selection of her smaller works including Sculpture with Colour (Deep Blue and Red). Within the sculpture garden larger scale bronze works such as Four-Square Walk Through and Sphere with Inner Forms can be found.

The museum is part of Tate and visitors can also visit Tate St Ives with a joint admission ticket. It is positioned centrally in St Ives close to local amenities including numerous cafés and the popular local beach. Visitors to Tate St Ives may enjoy a trip to the spectacular Sunset Café providing rooftop views of the surrounding area.
