These three portraits of Thomas Rackett the Elder, his wife and son are early works by Romney. Thomas Rackett was rector of Spetisbury, Dorset, for 59 years. His enlightened approach to education corresponded with his reputation as a distinguished antiquarian, naturalist, numismatist, geologist and artist. Rackett's collection of ancient Grecian coins are held by the Museum.
