Discovered while garden landscaping was being undertaken in Eaton, a suburb of Norwich.
Description:
This hoard of 145 pieces is the largest Late Bronze Age metalwork assemblage recovered from Norfolk at the time of acquisition. The hoard contains a wide variety of material including socketed axes, spearheads, gouges, rapier fragments and a possible sword scabbard guard. This may be a 'founder's hoard' with the items gathered to be melted down. Another possibility is that the hoard may represent a ritual deposition within the landscape, perhaps at a sacred spot, as three other late Bronze Age hoards have been found in the vicinity.
