Provenance:
Part of the group discovered by a metal detectorist at Poulton, near Cirencester in 2004 and 2005 and declared Treasure. The remainder uncovered by excavation and metal-detector survey.
Description:
A group of 59 items including fragments of torcs, finger-rings and bracelets, penannular rings, sheet gold-work and the tip of a bronze spearhead. Three of the bronze objects could have been tools used to apply decoration to gold objects and there is an unusually large bronze knife suitable for cutting up artefacts. The group could be interpreted as evidence of a smith's stock-in-trade. The objects were found scattered but probably originated as a hoard which was later dispersed by ploughing.
