Description:
William Hodges was the official artist on Captain Cook’s Second Voyage and this small sketch was made during one of the two sweeps towards the South Pole in 1772-73. It depicts the Resolution under sail in a choppy sea under overcast skies with streams of pack ice floating past. There is a similar sketch in the Mitchell Library, State Library of New South Wales.
