Description:
This gold necklace pendant inlaid with a square-cut garnet was found in Staffordshire. The style became fashionable in the 7th century although the shape and cut are unusual: generally such pendants contain cabochon or facetted stones in a variety of shapes in which irregular ovals predominate. It is a beautiful and expertly made jewel and may originally have been strung with other pendants on a high status necklace.
