John Lockwood Kipling (1837 - 1911)

Osborne House

1892

The chairs were integral to the Durbar Room, corresponding to the dado height and using common decorative motifs. Though the form of the chair is essentially European, the free quality of the carving and the slatted construction of the seat are a reflection of the Indian craft tradition.
