Description:
This painting of a wrestler is from an ongoing series by the British Pop artist. Kamikaze is a figure of fantasy, an imaginary masked Japanese-American wrestler. The work features signature elements inspired by popular culture and childhood nostalgia including collaged photographs, magazine images and collected objects such as a toy plane. It is a significant early work and was first shown in the seminal Robert Fraser Gallery exhibition of 1965.
