Frederick Cayley Robinson (1862 - 1927)

Fitzwilliam Museum

1909

A group of seven stage set designs and one poster design for Maurice Maeterlinck's 'fairy play', The Blue Bird which premiered at the Haymarket Theatre in December 1909. Robinson was responsible for the poster, and the set designs were divided between him and Sime. Critics enthused not only about the play - a charming allegorical fantasy for children - but also about the sets and costumes, praised as 'almost divine in their symphonic loveliness of colour and design'.
