Portrait of John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) painted at Charleston during the First World War where Keynes is reputed to be drafting a crucial telegram negotiating an American loan to secure Britain's wartime survival. The artist and sitter were lovers from 1908 and remained good friends after.
