This work shows a busy scene from a London square. On the left, a series of well dressed couples are going to an evening party. The host sits on a balcony waiting their arrival; the host is actually a portrait of Giles Lytton Strachey. On the right a bored housewife gazes out of her window while the washing blows overhead. In the centre, a group of soldiers buy flowers and in the background, people can be seen enjoying themselves in the gardens.
