Description:
The raw material for Ashford Black Marble is extracted from only two quarries near the village of Ashford-in-the-Water, Derbyshire. Buxton had several craftsmen practicing the trade and the works were popular souvenirs from spa visits. The collection consists of 152 pieces including a table top, ten larger items like urns, 95 other smaller ornaments and 30 jewellery items.
