Description:
The portrait of Wordsworth on the recto derives from the lifemask Haydon took of Wordsworth in 1815. This drawing is the basis for the preparatory drawing Haydon made for the portrait of Wordsworth in Haydon's painting 'Christ's Entry into Jerusalem' (1819). The lifemask and 1819 drawing are already in the collection of the Wordsworth Trust. The sketch on the verso depicts the figure of Wordsworth with head bent and arms folded which was used in the painting.
