Description:
The drawing relates to the painting of the same name already in the collection at The Walker. The drawing was executed the year before the formation of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the development of a new style. It is a vital piece of evidence in demonstrating this transformation. The high finish of the drawing suggests that it was intended as an independent work, perhaps for the Cycolographic Club, which preceded the foundation of the Brotherhood.
