Description:
This sequence of four works was painted in Roughra, Donegal near the artist's cottage and studio. They are examples of Flanagan's approach to landscape by reducing it to its bare essentials. Roughra (2) depicts a path or roadway through a bog; (3) shows a smoky bonfire burning; (4) a bright toned landscape with white posts of a field fence; (5) depicts the characteristically changing light of a Donegal bog-land during a rain shower.
