Description:
This work is from an ongoing project called 'Journey to the Surface of the Earth' which began in 1964 and involves visiting sites around the world, selected at random, and then making painted fibreglass reliefs, replicating small square plots from the selected site. This work came from a stone quarry in Kent and there is a deliberately ambiguous play between ground and wall, horizontal and vertical, between life and art. The Boyle family consists of Mark, Joan and their children Sebastian and Georgina.
