Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum

1) 1855

Thomas De Quincey took up the tenancy of Dove Cottage from the Wordsworths in 1809 and became a close friend. De Quincey was dependent on his daughters who managed his life for him when he became heavily addicted to opium. 1) chalk drawing of Thomas with his daughters, Emily, Margaret and granddaughter Eva by James Archer; 2-5) four medallions by James Archer; 6-9) miniature portraits of De Quincey's mother, his daughter Florence, an unknown lady and one of Thomas aged about 2 1/2 years by unknown artists.
