Three-quarter length portrait of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Morgan, 2nd Baronet seated in an armchair. Morgan inherited the Tredegar estate in 1758 and built on the financial success of his father by setting up a company to develop the docks in Newport. He was MP for Brecon and Monmouth, and President of the Equitable Life Assurance Society. Despite being of great wealth and social status, Owen has depicted Morgan in a humane and reasonable manner.
