Michael Sandle (born 1936)

The Collection: Art and Archaeology in Lincolnshire

1988

The sculpture follows the artist's theme of media manipulation. It depicts a powerful helmeted, androgynous figure, full of movement, using a cudgel to smash a television screen. Sandle explained, 'it is the power to manipulate opinion and distort the truth that I hate so much about the media and in particular television advertising.' This sculpture is situated prominently in front of the Usher Gallery building.
