Description:
Slee explains that he is reinterpreting Toby in the spirit of the metal sculptor David Smith. The stylised curve of his black hat is his one recognisable feature. The Toby jug theme is part of Slee's questioning of Englishness and the continuing or changing meaning of English traditions.
