Description:
This triptych depicts the Roman sculpture 'Wrestlers' discovered in Italy in the 16th century on a slab. Above the slab is an image of a soldier trying to unearth a howitzer from the mud in Italy during the Second World War from the photographic archive of the Imperial War Museum, London. O'Donoghue states that 'the wrestlers represent the struggling armies in Italy' and the digging soldier 'is an image of the futility of war'.
