Description:
The second volume of a two volume illustrated secular manuscript on civil law by Bartolo da Sassoferrato. The manuscript deals with the legal and economic concerns of the break-up of a marriage, usually due to the death of the father. The opening miniature is on the scale of a small panel painting: in the centre is the Emperor Justinian enthroned with orb and sceptre, with a widow and her son kneeling before him with their petition. The first volume is already in the Glasgow University Library collection.
