The painting shows plants on a sunny window sill, in a palette of soft pinks, mauves, blues and greens. It is a very decorative work, reflecting Ratcliffe's earlier career as a wallpaper designer. The work was painted in Letchworth and speaks of the ideals of the fledgling Garden City: pure air, wild flowers and sunshine.
