Description:
Series of 3 proof states, 1/4, 4/5 and 5/5 (from a suite of 18 etched scenes on two plates). The series demonstrates the significant changes made by Picasso during the work. The 5th state includes for the first time four additional scenes etched in quite a different style in response to the bombing of Guernica on 26 April 1937. The scathing satire and spoof mythology are replace by a more direct expression of the horrors of innocent slaughter.
