Description:
Bust of Alfred Wolmark (1877-1961), one of Gaudier-Brzeska's earliest and most enthusiastic supporters and a notorious artist of the day. The head is screwed around in profile, giving this monumental, over-size work a sense of movement. The faceted modelling of the face and hair are an early example of the influence of Cubism. The plaster model for the bust was made in 1913; this example is one of an later edition of 6, cast from the original during the late 1950s.
