Description:
Crowded scene depicting a ship's departure from the quayside, focusing on the reactions of the grieving friends and families left behind on shore. United through their common experience, the individuality of their reactions varies according to their circumstances. The sailors and emigrants hang over the side of the ship with their arms outstretched, trying to maintain their link with home as long as possible.
