Enormous variety of designs, including zoomorphic decoration and runic inscriptions. Also inlcudes previously unknown designs (e.g. 'cross-on-steps') and types (one example is overstruck). This type of coin marks an important stage in the development of English coinage, and demonstrates the vibrant and innovative artistic developments of the 8th century.
