A bowl depicting on one side the Battle of Camperdown in progress and on the other a scene of the cutter 'Active' bringing the news of the Dutch fleet being at sea to Admiral Duncan in the Yarnouth Roads. The Battle, which took place in 1797, was a famous victory over the Dutch navy by Admiral Duncan who had been appointed Commander of the North Sea Fleet two years earlier. This decoration is attributed to Robert Allen who was responsible for the majority of the best decoration found on Lowestoft porcelain and particularly for important landscape and maritime scenes from the later period of the factory. The interior of the bowl is painted with a floral design.
