Provenance:
Found in 2001 by a metal detectorist in a field near Moulsford, Oxfordshire; declared Treasure in December 2002.

Description:
A prehistoric gold torc (neckring) made from an undecorated, heavy and thick gold bar of oval cross-section, which is thickest in the middle and tapers towards both ends. Gold torcs of this date were highly significant and rare symbols of wealth and power. This torc comes from the same field as another Bronze Age gold torc found in 1960 and also purchased by Reading Museum with the help of The Art Fund (see Review number 2060).
