Walter Richard Sickert (1860 - 1942)

Victoria Art Gallery

circa 1917

During his stay in Bath during World War One, Sickert concentrated on painting a few specific places and he was particularly interested in the eastern end of Lansdown Crescent, depicted in this work. This version is documented as a study, but its fresh colours and lively, confident brushwork suggest that it was completed on the spot.
