Derby Porcelain Factory (active 1748 - 1848)

Pickford's House Museum

circa 1785-1800

Monteiths are bowls with scalloped rims originally used to cool inverted wine glasses or punch cups. This pair have an unusual shape and are decorated with flower, nut and insect paintings, which is reminiscent of Derby work from around 1765. However, we know from the markings of a puce crown, crossed batons and D, that they date from a later period.
