Provenance:
After the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, galleas Girona was wrecked off the North Antrim coast; 1967-9, treasure recovered by Stenuit, Belgian underwater archaeologist.

Description:
A typical Italian Renasissance set of Caesars, some complete with the lapis lazuli cameos. Part of the finds from the Girona wreck. The 12th piece to complete the set was subsequently found at the same site in 1998, and was supported by a grant in 1999 (see review number 4757).
