Shanti Panchal (born 1951)

Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery

2000

The work is autobiographical in nature and explores the isolation of the individual. The large eyes of the figures relate to Jain miniature painting, where they symbolise the search for spiritual values. Similarly the mark on the woman's forehead refers to the Hindu belief in the third eye of Shiva.
