Supplied to Matthew Boulton for the gardens at Soho House for the 'Sphinx Walk' by Edward Gray Saunders, 1795; moved from Soho House to another Boulton family home mid 19th Century; sold as part of this estate to the present vendor.

Description:
A pair of George III carved stone sphinxes, one looking to the left, the other to the right. Each one crouching and carved with a lambrequin saddle-cloth.
