Brusasorci was one of the leading Veronese artists of the mid I6th century, but his work is scarcely known in Britain. Altarpieces and religious frescoes form the largest portion of Brusasorci's production, but he was also much in demand as a painter of palace facades and friezes, and to a lesser extent of portraits. He was an eclectic painter who responded readily to new artistic stimuli, and he played a significant role in disseminating the Mannerist style in the Veneto region. This large, highly-resolved drawing is one of only about a dozen securely attributable sheets by the artist to have been identified.
