John Robert Cozens (1752 - 1798)

Tate Collection

1752 - 1799

This landscape shows a group of trees with a man behind driving goats. The lake can be seen in the right corner below a hill on which the Castle stands. While further away is a plain with distant hills on the horizon. In a blue sky with long clouds the afternoon sun is behind the trees. A characteristic example of one of the great masters of English watercolour painting. One of twenty seven gifts to seven museums by A E Anderson through the Art Fund between 1922 and 1938.
