Description:
Auerbach's style is a product of his concern with representation or subject and particularly with David Bomberg's teaching that it is the underlying physical nature and dynamic of an image that the artist should perceive. The artist has used the same regular sitters over a very long time always denoting them by their initials. This painting was produced at a time when the artist was experimenting with a restricted palette.
