The two James Lamberts where uncle and nephew and the most important artists to have worked in Lewes for any length of time. The majority portray some aspect of Lewes, from gravestones to buildings, with particular emphasis on the Castle and its surroundings. There are also other grand houses, such as Bodiam, and a dramatic view of the inside of East Grinstead Church after its steeple had blown down in 1785.
