It is a fine topographical study in full watercolour and is inscribed on the reverse in the artist's hand. It was clearly intended as a specific and accurate topographical record of Shaw Hall and its gardens, showing the hall, ancillary buildings, and (to the right of the group) the stables. Now only the stables remain.
Provenance
Shaw Hall, 1767 (as part of a portfolio of 4 atercolours and two title pages); almost certainly in the sale of the contents of Worden Hall in 1948; with H Bradfer-Lawrence in 1950.
