This previously unrecorded picture joined a small number of known architectural paintings of Canterbury cathedral which all date to the seventeenth century. This work differs from the group in its unusual viewpoint which is from the triforium of the south-east quire transept, looking down to the great archiepiscopal monuments and the uncluttered floors of the medieval building. The picture represents the cathedral with a high degree of accuracy if with a certain lack of skill on the vaulting -and it is only in the foreground that there is artistic invention with the highly patterned floor and overhead drapery.
