Virgin and Child with Five Angels

This relief depicts the Virgin behind a parapet surrounded by five angels. Two of them frame the central figures while another leans over the frame's edge playfully inviting our gaze. There are two symbols of victory in this piece: the first is the charioteer depicted driving four horses on the Christ Child's medallion and second is the wreath offered by the angel on the right. This piece is an excellent example of Agostino di Duccios's ability to balance the improvisatory nature of the subjects as well his style for linear austerity.
