Edward Bawden (1903 - 1989)

Fry Art Gallery

1955

Bawden helped revive the art of watercolour painting in the 1930s.He brought to it his experience of print making and designing to develop a fresh, unaffected style. Bawden's interest in pattern and texture can be seen here in his enjoyment of the depiction of bricks and hedge. Brick House was the artist's home for more than 40 years although this is the only watercolour to show the building.
