While all Chinese furniture-makers of this period are anonymous, this cupboard displays all the characteristics of late Ming furniture. A storage cupboard of this type would have been made for domestic use, possibly for storing books. It is constructed of huanghuali, a close-grained hardwood related to the rosewood family, and huamu wood. The quality of craftsmanship is exquisite.
