Description:
Curve of underside of feet suggests that the claws once clasped the surface of a globe. The bird is poised for flight, and, although the wings are missing, they should be raised and spread. The most likely theory is that the bird was fixed to an orb in the hand of a statue. Originally excavated by Reverend JG Joyce between 1864 and 1878.
