Gifted Huguenot silversmith practising in London, the first to be Pierre Harache was one of the most gifted of the early Huguenot silversmiths practising in London, combining a very original approach with superb craftsmanship. He was the first Huguenot to be admitted to the Goldsmiths' Company, and his work was much admired in fashionable circles. These ewers show him at his best and are unique stylistically. Their design can be traced back to Greek prototypes, and in a sense they anticipate neo-classical silver produced some seventy years later under the influence of Sir William Hamilton's publication of his Greek vases in1766.
