Bow figure of a boxer

Bow Pottery

Manor Park Museum

1750 - 1755

The boxer is shown in an aggressive attitude with fists raised. He wears puce-flowered, pale yellow shorts and black buckled shoes. His pink jacket and black hat are spread over a tree stump whose base is covered with applied flowers. This rare figure bears the impressed ladder mark and its importance is enhanced by the fact that a portion of a 'waster' from a similar figure was discovered in the vicinity of the Bow factory, confirming the attribution of the model to Bow.
