Description:
The newly-enlisted recruit sits at a table with two soldiers of the recruiting-party who wear the uniform of British Infantry c. 1830. A young woman in tears sits beside the recruit; seen in an inner room are an old soldier with a wooden leg, and a woman. This was the last painting completed by Liverseege and is considered to be his finest piece.
