An early preparatory study for the ceiling fresco in the gallery of the Palazzo Pamphili (Piazza Navona), Rome. The frescos illustrate stories from the Aeneid (the Pamphili family claimed descent from the Aeneas). The central compartment represents the Apotheosis of Aeneas, with Jupiter looking towards Venus who points to the left and Hercules at the far right turning towards them.
