Provenance:
Convent of the Carmelitas Calzadas, Seville, circa 1800; Don Manuel Lopez Cepero, Dean of Seville; Batholomew Frere in 1809; then by descent. On loan to the National Gallery since 1946.

Description:
Depicts St John writing the Apocalypse. In the sky to the left is the Woman of the Apocalypse with the Dragon (Revelation, XII, 1-4 and 14). The model for St John is the same as for St Thomas in the Orleans Museum and one of two men in the Budapest version of the Three Peasants at a Table.
